Just over half way thru our cruise and we are onto the Italian Dinner, as we were walking into the dining room they had the little carts out again so they were preparing to make something special, I wonder what?
Spaghetti with Meatball in Marinara Sauce – The spaghetti and meatballs were both cooked properly, the meatballs were still juicy on the inside. The sauce was a little on the watery side but overall it was all right. 76/100
Herb and Sea Salt Marinated Seafood Antipasto, Creamy Lemon Emulsion – The mussel and shrimp tasted all right, but there was an overwhelming seafood taste from the remainder of the dish. Some additional citrus to cut the seafood flavor would have been appreciated. Note: Helen did not use the lemon emulsion on the side of the dish. 80/100
Dry-Cured San Daniele Ham with sweet Cantaloupe Melon – The melon was not cut all the way thru but otherwise was sweet. I found the ham to be a little too salty for my liking. A little more fruit would help balance the saltines of the ham. 75/100
Rustic Vegetable Minestrone, Pesto Crouton – The soup was creamy and pretty good and the crunchy pesto crouton was yummy, it had a lot flavor and was seasoned properly. 80/100
Nippy Peach Soup with sparkling Prosecco – There was a nice peach flavor to the soup, but I did not understand why it was Nippy and could not taste the Prosecco. 75/100
Gamberi alla Fra Diavolo – It was not hot or fiery, more of a mild sauce than anything. The scampi was tender and tasty. 92/100
Pan Fried Chicken Cutlets Mushroom and Fontina Melt – The chicken was tender and not overcooked, could not tasted any cheese flavor at all. The sautéed mushrooms under the chicken were overcooked. 70/100
Special Garlic and Tomato Penne – An interesting “table side” as in cooked in the section pasta of the day that was very heavy with garlic. Somehow the pasta never gets overcooked, unfortunately the sauce had too much garlic for my liking, a very nice gesture. 70/100
Tiramisu – Perhaps one of the better deserts we had all cruise, very flavorful and light, the dark chocolate was a little too bitter. 95/100
Crespelle Cipriani – the crepes were very tough and chewy, very poor execution on this desert. 40/100
On another note, we finished up with come Lemoncello that was quite smooth.
