Day 4 of Vacation - Cruise Day 1, At Sea Captain's Welcome Dinner

Captain's Welcome Dinner, surprisingly our first formal night was our first sea day being the 2nd day of our cruise.  After spending most of the day lounging around and just exploring the ship we were quite famished and ready for dinner. (Reviews in red are Helen's)

Grapefruit and Kiwi – Nice presentation, the minted raspberry coulis helped to cut the tartness of the grapefruit.  A very simple dish, yet tasty 80/100

Fettuccini Alfredo – This has always been a staple of Princess Cruises, I enjoy the Alfredo sauce and the noodles are not over cooked.  I find it quite tasty and order this at least once on every cruise. I placed my order to be made with the cheese bowl but it didn’t arrive with it.

Skillet Fried Halibut  - It was dried and overcooked, that alone caused it to be not appetizing 25/100

Grilled Beef Tenderloin – The beef was cooked perfectly, but the beef itself didn’t have much taste to it. The almond croquette was cooked properly and was crispy on the outside yet still moist on the inside. Historically I have shied away from the croquetes as they were overcooked and had a burnt flavor to them. The dish could have used more sauce overall and the seasoning was on the light side.  I would order this again. 75/100

Banana Foster Flambé – The banana was not ripe yet and cooked beyond well done, Helen did not appreciate the overwhelming alcohol taste.  The bananas were not cooked to order and instead were just sitting in a pile as they were cooked earlier in dinner service. 50/100  Would not order again

Chocolate pudding pie with sweet tangy cream – Nothing remarkable here, tasted ok.  All in all I would rate the first formal night as a disappointment, not having a palatable entree is a real turnoff.  Hopefully the upcoming meals will be better.
